— The Hierophant is a card about doing the right thing, perceived by internal values and the ones of the community. It may signify that you are struggling and are unsure about what is “right” for you to do. The answers are within you, and what is right for you to do is right for you as well.
– The Hierophant in reverse is still about doing the right thing, however it usually means there’s greater confusion about what the right thing to do is. The Reversed Hierophant indicates that you may need to dig deeper, find more information before decided. You may not understand where you are coming from or why this choice is the right one.
Artwork of an OC of mine, Daniel Talbot for a Dishonored Fanfiction collection featured on AO3 under the series called "Cataclasm." Currently he's only present in Reciprocity.
Unfortunately the way I devised his story as a major-but-not-main character involved playing off of religious zealotry. Daniel unfortunately, has two options and the canon choice made for him was the High Chaos one, aligning to the way the games gave you the option to dispose of your enemies. Daniel found out about the Outsider's mark on Corvo, but did not act immediately, thus the High Chaos route was taken.
High Chaos -- Either assassinating him outright, or doing what happened in the story. Incriminating letters between himself and his lover(who was a male servant for his father) are planted specifically to uproot his power as the High Overseer and have him taken down. Unfortunately, doing both of these leads to his death. He commits suicide with his lover in the Tower Chapel if this is chosen. This one is represented by the Overseer's mask, and relays The Hierophant in the upright position.
Low Chaos -- Talk to him and convince him to leave the Abbey in favor of pursuing a career in medical treatment, specifically geared towards improving mental healthcare. What becomes of him in that situation has yet to be devised, but going with the theme of "High Chaos leading to death and Low Chaos leading to things that are almost never better than death" it's probably not good. This one is represented by the Man without the Mask, and relays The Hierophant in the reverse position.
